VCE & VET
VCE rounds off the final two years of a student in Senior School. Our focus is on nurturing the whole person to achieve the best they can in VCE. We offer students a wide range of subjects catering for diverse needs. Subjects cover areas such as English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Studio Arts, Visual Communication and Design, PE, Product Design and Technology (Wood), Vetamorphus, VET Hospitality, Business Management, Legal Studies, History, French, Media, HHD and many more. The choice of subjects is often guided by the desires of our students, so can change from year to year.
The facilities at BHCS are second to none, with a purpose built VCE Centre giving students ample room for a variety of study styles. The centre includes spaces for individual study as well as group study. Common areas are a hive of activity and students can make good use of the communal kitchen.
Our BYOD policy and supervised Wi-Fi enables students to access material beyond the classroom. We strongly encourage students to make use of EDROLO, an excellent online resource that can be accessed at home, school or on the bus! Moodle, our online Learning Management System further enhances communication between home and school, allowing students to access missed work, see assessment tasks and access additional resources.
Our VCE teachers continue to be passionate about their subject areas. Many are presenters at Professional Development Seminars for their given subject, as well as being assessors for VCAA examinations.
Parents and students often ask, ‘What is a good ATAR score?’ We believe ‘a good ATAR score’ is one that gets a student into the course they desire. This can vary from student to student and for some this means an ATAR in the 90s while for others it only needs to be in the 70s. The School takes pride in the achievements of our students and of who they become as they mature into young men and women who make valuable and positive contributions to society.
Trade Training Centre at BHCS
Our School is blessed to be able to offer a Hospitality Trade Training Centre. The centre consists of a 16 bay Commercial Kitchen and a 120 seat restaurant. Our commercial kitchen and facilities are of industry standard, providing an excellent grounding for students who wish to pursue a career in the Hospitality Industry. Currently the School offers a VCE VET Hospitality course – Cert II Kitchen Operations (SIT20312), a two year course giving students extensive ‘back of house’ skills coupled with valuable ‘front of house’ experience. This subject can contribute significantly to a student’s ATAR score, with it being able to qualify as one of the top 4 subjects.
Students gain practical experience through catering for various functions at BHCS, from a buffet style ‘New Parents’ Dinner’, to a Pastors' Breakfast, as well as preparing finger foods and savouries for Grandparents’ Day. This course is also available to students from other schools in our area.
